Autumn in Japan 2019 – Japan has four seasons all very different. Autumn has come to Japan and that means the temperature is getting cooler and the trees start to change color. Autumn is one of the best times to visit Japan as the leaves change color, the scenery transforms into a myriad of reds, yellows and greens. Autumn leaves in Japanese are called “momiji” or “koyo” and Japan has some of the most spectacular places to admire the autumn leaves. As autumn sweeps from Hokkaido to the north to Kyushu in the south, trees and shrubs in the whole of Japan gradually change color.

Depending on the place and time, trees like the Japanese Maple change to vivid hues of red, the Ginkgo tree colors golden yellow, although the Japanese Cedar and Japanese Pine stay green year round. Mountains and valleys covered with these trees will turn into colorful vistas and attracting many visitors. In fact, since ancient times, Japanese people have been admiring autumn leaves that a special tradition called “momijigari”, meaning red leaf hunting, was born. People would travel wide and far in search of the most beautiful colored leaves, especially the Japanese Maple. With so much beauty all around, it’s no wonder autumn in Japan is one of the most photographed seasons. We’ve made a selection of the most beautiful momiji pictures in Japan that will surely inspire you.
