People across the world want to visit Japan at least once in their lifetime. They want to experience the country’s rich culture, cuisine, and history. That makes Japan one of the most popular tourist spots for westerners. Lately, the land of the rising sun has become the go-to place for seekers of higher education.

Many go there even if they don’t know any Japanese. The country has low tuition rates of around $12,000-18,000 per year. This makes for a good alternative to American higher education. Plus, you get to live in a completely different cultural environment. Japan has plenty of great international schools welcoming students from across the world.

The University of Tokyo is one of Japan’s top universities. The institution has courses in many academic fields. The learning process is so comprehensive that students don’t have to buy online essays or use homework help services. The University of Tokyo offers both graduate and undergraduate studies. It also has various special and vocational programs.

The University of Tokyo is Japan’s first university that was established in 1877. Over the years, the institution merged with various specialized schools. They include the Tokyo School of Agriculture and Forestry and the Imperial College of Engineering. It’s now a comprehensive research institution that conducts work in various academic fields.

Students focus on intellectual development, acquiring skills, and professional knowledge. The staff aims to give students a diverse academic environment. The current acceptance rate at the university is 34.2%. It’s one of the toughest Japanese universities to get into. The university has strong academic demands but is a good choice for international students.

Kyoto University

It’s one of the country’s best universities. The staff works to expand student knowledge and push them towards academic achievements. The institution offers special, undergraduate, and graduate programs in various courses. Kyoto University accepts 37% of the applicants. Here are some of their graduate courses:

  • Agriculture;
  • Bio studies;
  • Economics;
  • Engineering;
  • Informatics;
  • Medicine.

Kyoto University opened its doors in 1897. It’s the second oldest higher education institution. In 10 years, the institution founded the colleges of Science and Engineering, Law, and Medicine. It’s a go-to place for those who want to explore radical philosophical ideas. Kyoto University’s school of philosophy was founded by Kitaro Nishida.

Many of these programs include fieldwork and research. The university has many known scientists giving talks on its grounds. There’s also an opportunity to learn from local professionals.

Akita International University

Akita International University is one of Japan’s youngest institutions. Founded in 2004, it is one of the 93 public universities. International students apply to the AIU because of its excellent programs. They enroll in various undergrad programs. The institution is one of the few Japanese universities to offer all courses in English.

In 2019, over 150 students from various countries studied at Akita International University. The institution is extremely difficult to get into with 10% exception rates. It shows a high demand for academic performance and selects only the best students. The university has bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. programs.

Students can get diplomas in such fields as:

  • Global Business and Global Studies;
  • Global Communication Practices;
  • Japanese Language Teaching.

Students can enroll in foreign language courses to improve their linguistic skills. Those accepted live on campus along with international and Japanese students.

 

Keio University

This private university is one of the oldest Japanese institutions. Keio University offers a unique learning approach and has a moderately high acceptance rate of 23.7%. This shows that its staff is interested in having a great number of students. Keio University has many graduate, undergraduate, and short-term programs.

Students who can’t afford to move to Japan can get an education from its online school. This way, they can stay connected and learn together. There are a total of 24 English-speaking programs for undergraduate and graduate levels. The university has graduate courses in

  • Engineering;
  • Health;
  • Law;
  • Media.

Keio University has various campuses in Tokyo and Kanagawa. It’s the home of the PEARL program run by the university’s faculty of economics. Students can enjoy international dormitories and scholarships. And there are various ways for foreign students to get involved with the community.

 

Waseda University

This private research university operates in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It’s one of Japan’s oldest universities that was established in 1882 by Umakuma Shigenobu. It currently has 36 departments, including 23 higher schools and 13 undergrad schools. Six years ago, there were 42.860 students learning at Waseda University.

Its central campus is situated in Shinjuku. There are 21 research institutes operating on the main campus. The university also has campuses in Chuo, Honjo, Kitakyushu, and Nishitokyo. Only 15% of potential students make it past the educational board. Those who get enrolled get access to Waseda University’s huge library.

It’s one of the biggest libraries in Japan, with 4.5 million volumes and 46 thousand periodicals. This and other factors make the university a prestigious higher education institution. Waseda University is often positioned close to Keio University, the greatest private school in Japan.

Waseda receives extra funds as a part of the Top Global University project. It’s used to improve a competitive environment in Japan’s education system. The university’s research programs work to advance human technology.

Whatever the choice, they will experience life in a different country and culture. The quality of education will be excellent across all listed universities.
